OSCE REVISION COURSE FOR THIRD YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS

Time:

10th April 2010 (Saturday): 0900 hrs till 1745 hrs

Venue:
Out-patient Department,

University Hospital of Wales, Heath Park, Cardiff


Brief overview:
This intensive one-day OSCE revision course is specially tailored to assist third year medical students prepare for their exam in summer 2010. Taught by clinicians, this course will aid the candidate’s ability to obtain a focused history, interpret relevant data, communicate effectively, and perform clinical examinations slickly and present the findings to the examiner in a systematic and concise manner.

 
Topics:
The course, amongst others, will cover the following
topics:
  • History taking, communication skills and giving information (in lay terms)
  • General examination of the eye; Visual acuity/distance vision; Eye movements and examination for a squint; Fundoscopy
  • External examination of the ear and using an otoscope; Rinne and Weber's tests 
  • Examination of the abdomen
  • Examination of the hand
  • Examination of the respiratory system
  • Examination of the cardiovascular system
  • Examination of the nose, mouth, throat and pharynx
  • Examination of the hip, knee and shoulder
  • Examination of the peripheral vascular system
  • Examination of the thyroid and neck
  • Interpretation of urinalysis, ECG and ABG results
  • PEFR measurement and use of a metered dose inhaler
  • Breast examination on model
  • Rectal examination on model
  • Measuring blood pressure (Sphygmomanometry)
