About Squadron Leader Mathew George Koshy

Squadron Leader Mathew Koshy graduated in Medicine from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (www.manipal.edu), India in 1996. He undertook his postgraduate training in the United Kingdom after being competitively selected in the Basic Surgical Training (BST) Programme at East Yorkshire Hospitals in 1998. He obtained membership by examination (MRCS) to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. During BST, his varied interests led him to join the Territorial Army and he followed this up by joining the Royal Air Force as a Medical Officer in 2002. At this point, he transferred to military General Practice and Occupational Health, concentrating on Aviation Medicine as his field of interest.

Dr Koshy’s military career commenced at a time of intense British involvement in various theatres worldwide. As a result, he has accumulated operational experience from several tours to areas such as Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and the South Atlantic Islands. He is currently based at Royal Air Force (RAF) Marham, the RAF’s biggest operational fighter base, and is expected to take up an instructional and research post at the RAF’s Centre of Aviation Medicine in Bedfordshire in May 2010.
