Brief description:

Taught by clinical anatomists and consultant surgeons, this intensive 2-day revision course is intended to help surgical trainees prepare for the final part (OSCE or Viva) of the MRCS exam. This course, which takes the recent changes introduced (in May 2010) to the speciality context of the examination into consideration, will: consolidate the candidate’s core and applied surgical knowledge in anatomy; provide a focused revision of pertinent exam topics in this area, and; aid the candidate’s aptitude to answer OSCE stations/viva questions in a systematic yet concise manner. There will be interactive tutorials in embryology and radiology. The OSCE and mock vivas, in addition to surgical anatomy (prosections, osteology and surface anatomy) will cover surgical pathology, surgical radiology, and surgical skills and patient safety.

Teaching format:
  • Demonstration using anatomical prosections and cross-sections
  • Small groups tutorials in osteology, topographic and surface anatomy
  • Didactic and interactive lectures in embryology and radiology

Mock Exam (OSCE and Viva):

There will be a number of OSCE and Viva stations, and they will run in conjunction. Every candidate will go through all the stations. Each OSCE and viva station will be for six minutes.
