Clinically Oriented Anatomy for FRCS (Orth)

COURSE PROGRAMME

DAY 2: 12 September 2009 (Saturday)

0830 – 0930 hrs   Spine (Mr James Cordell – Smith)

  • Clinically relevant anatomy of the spine
  • Surgical approaches to the cervical spine: Anterior and Posterior
  • Surgical approaches to the thoracic spine; transthoracic
  • Surgical approaches to the lumbar spine: anterior, anterolateral and posterior
0930 – 1030 hrs   Pelvis & Hip (Mr Steve Jones)
  • Clinically relevant anatomy
  • Surgical approaches to the pelvis and acetabulum: Kocher Langenbeck, Ilioinguinal, Stoppa approach
  • Surgical approaches to the hip: Anterior (Smith-Petersen), Anterolateral (Watson-Jones), Lateral (Hardinge), Posterior (Southern) and medial (Ludlof)
  • Sites for arthroscopic hip portals and the important structures that can be damaged

1030 – 1045 hrs   Break for refreshments

 
1045 – 1145 hrs   Knee (Mr Stuart Roy)
  • Clinically relevant anatomy of the knee  
  • Surgical approaches to the knee: Midline parapatellar, subvastus and posterior
  • Sites for arthroscopic knee portals and the important structures that can be damaged
  • Compartments of the lower limb and fasciotomy
 
1145 – 1300 hrs   MCQs and Viva Practice
 

1300 – 1400 hrs   Break for lunch  

 
1400 – 1500 hrs   Foot and Ankle (Mr Hiro Tanaka)  
  • Clinically relevant anatomy of the ankle and foot
  • Surgical approaches to the ankle: Aanterior, medial, lateral & posterolateral arthroscopic portal placements
  • Surgical approaches to the foot 
  • Compartments of the foot and decompression technique
  • Sites for arthroscopic ankle portals and the important structures that can be damaged
1500 – 1730 hrs   MCQs and Viva Practice 
 
1730 – 1745 hrs  Closing Remarks and Evaluation
