VENUE: Department of Anatomy, School of Biosciences, Cardiff University, Cardiff

 
PROVISIONAL COURSE PROGRAMME

0840 - 0850: Registration
0850 - 0900: Welcome and Introduction
0900: Start of teaching
 
0900-1000 hrs:
LECTURES

  • Basic and applied anatomy of the upper limb – PPT lecture
  • Basic and applied anatomy of the lower limb – PPT lecture
  • Basic and applied anatomy of the thorax – PPT lecture
  • Basic and applied anatomy of the abdomen and pelvis – PPT lecture
1000 – 1220 (including 20 minute break from 1100-1120):
SMALL GROUPS DEMONSTRATION
  • Surgical anatomy of the axilla, brachial plexus, shoulder joint and arm
  • Surgical anatomy of the thoracic inlet, ribs and intercostals
  • Surgical anatomy of the hip joint, gluteal region, sacral plexus and thigh
  • Surgical anatomy of the anterior abdominal wall, inguinal region and external genitalia

Cross-sections, topographical and surface anatomy will also be demonstrated.  Appropriate radiographs and other imaging will be used as aids.

 

1220-1320: Lunch Break

 
1320 – 1520:
SMALL GROUPS DEMONSTRATION
  • Surgical anatomy of the cubital fossa, forearm, wrist and hand  
  • Surgical anatomy of the popliteal fossa, knee joint, leg, ankle joint and foot
  • Surgical anatomy of the mediastinum, diaphragm, lungs and heart
  • Surgical anatomy of the abdominal viscera and autonomous nervous system
Cross-sections, topographical and surface anatomy will also be demonstrated.  Appropriate radiographs and other imaging will be used as aids.
 

1520-1540: Break for refreshments

 
1540 – 1700: Osteology
SMALL GROUPS TEACHING
  • Osteology of the scapula and humerus
  • Osteology of the radius, ulna, wrist joint, hand
  • Osteology of the pelvis and femur
  • Osteology of the tibia, fibula, patella, ankle joint, foot

1700HRS: End of Day 1
