About Dr. Balachandran Santhosh

Dr Santhosh qualified in Medicine from Trivandrum Medical College, Kerala, India, with high distinction. He subsequently undertook a structured training programme in paediatrics in the UK National Health Service, and soon secured his membership from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK (MRCPCH). Due to his interest in a career in paediatric anaesthesia, he competitively secured the UK National Training Number in Anaesthesia. A year after entering this programme, he obtained his Fellowship in Anaesthesia from the Royal College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (FCARCSI). He is currently a final year Specialist Registrar in the Warwickshire School of Anaesthesia, UK.

Dr Santhosh attained outstanding academic achievements from an early age. In 1987, he was awarded the President’s Gold Medal, a highly prestigious honour awarded to the top 1% of ‘O’ level students (high school) in the country, by the President of India. He was the best outgoing student both in high school and junior college, an attribute that continued into his medical school days where he secured numerous distinctions. Dr Santhosh has a keen interest in developing innovative programmes in medical skills training for medical students and doctors from resource-poor settings, and, to this end, he works in collaboration with various global charities and organisations such as Doctors Academy.
