GASTROINTESTINAL SURGERY
  • Acute abdomen, abdominal masses and abdominal emergencies
  •  History and investigations for bleeding per rectum
  • Jaundice, ascites and portal hypertension
  • Pathologies of the gall bladder and pancreas
  • Colorectal cancer and management
  • Hernias and scrotal swellings

VASCULAR SURGERY
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
  •  Peripheral Vascular Disease and Gangrene
  • Varicose veins and deep venous thrombosis
LUMPS AND BUMPS
  • Cutaneous lumps and malignancies
  •  Neck swellings and enlarged lymph nodes
  1300-1345: Lunch Break
 
BREAST AND ENDOCRINE
  • Nipple discharge, and benign and malignant breast lumps
  • Thyroid disorders and malignancies
  • Neck swellings
UROLOGY
  • Urinary tract infection and calculi
  •  Haematuria
  • Urinary tract obstruction

INVESTIGATIONS
  • Interpretation of baseline and common blood investigations
  • Arterial Blood Gas interpretation
  • Blood transfusion and management
SURGICAL CARE
  • Consenting patients
  • Pre- and Peri-operative management
  • Post-operative management and complications
  • General principles of wound healing and wound management
SKILLS/TECHNIQUES
  • Local anaesthetics and suturing
  • Writing prescription, IV fluids and analgesics
  • Catheterisation and PR examination
  • Cannulation, venepuncture and SC/IM/IV injections
