About Dr Clare Carpenter

Dr Clare Carpenter graduated in medicine from University of Wales College of Medicine, UK, during which time she also intercalated to complete a BSc in Human Anatomy from Cardiff University. Following this, she entered surgical training and completed her basic surgical training in South Wales. After successful training placements in various surgical disciplines, she obtained Membership (MRCS) to the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She then undertook a period of dedicated basic science research evaluating the effects of IL-6/sIL-6R in osteoclastogenesis in rheumatoid arthritis; the thesis is to be submitted towards a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Cardiff University. She is currently a Specialist Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the All Wales Higher Surgical Training programme.

Dr Carpenter has a keen interest in teaching and has been involved in various academic activities both for undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also has the experience of devising teaching assessment tools and developing clinical skills examination audio-visual presentations. Besides the UK, she has the experience of working in various countries including Australia, Papua New Guinea and India (working with children affected by the sequlae of poliomyelitis).
