About Dr. Silas Benjamin

Dr. Silas Benjamin qualified in Medicine (MBBS) from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India (http://www.manipal.edu). He then pursued his postgraduate training in General (Internal) Medicine at the same institute and obtained an MD on completion of training. His career interest of combining his clinical work with academia and research led to him pursing further training in the same speciality in the United Kingdom (UK). Following successful stints in various disciplines of medicine in the UK National Health Service (NHS), he obtained (by exam) the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, UK (MRCP). He is currently pursuing specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the NHS.

Dr Benjamin has been actively involved in teaching and research throughout his career. His study on ‘Heart Disease and Pregnancy’ and its subsequent submission as a thesis (as part of his MD) was accepted by MAHE University. In addition to this, as a postgraduate trainee in the UK, he has undertaken numerous research projects, including ‘Genetic variants of IL-13 signalling as important predictors of asthma’ and ‘Relationship between obesity and asthma’. He has presented scientific papers to various international conferences and has a good record of publications. Besides his academic and research interests, Dr Benjamin has always taken an active interest in various health-related social activity and community projects such as eradication of malaria, pulse polio and AIDS awareness programmes. He continues to maintain his interest and involvement in various health and educational projects in both resource-rich and resource-poor nations.
